New seal. I had a set of calligraphy brushes, ink, and blank stone seal chops, which I can now finally carve. I am planning on making a set of the four seasons, because how many name seals does a person really need?
It says 'winter.' I attempted to carve a pagoda type roof on top, it should probably be more tiered (i.e. smaller top roof to larger bottom one) but I liked it and didn't feel like working on it anymore. I messed up on the lower character, but I'm hoping its not noticeable. I guess it isn't at all if you don't know any Chinese . . .
This one is much smaller than my previous ones, the actual seal part is 3/4 in by 3/4 in, the pagoda is a little over 3/4 in tall.
The stone is either soapstone, shoushan stone (normal stone used for seals) or they're both the same kind of rock and people are just in denial about it. Its a pretty soft rock, anyways, and makes a lot of dust when you carve it.
thanks I use metal files- they aren't specifically intended for seal carving, but they work well. I think its the same basic idea anyways. I hope you get to try making your own, its fun once you get the hang of it ^_^

ah yeah, I don't know what I'll do when I run out of supplies, which will probably be soon. Either the internet or I guess Chinatown . . . I haven't looked around too much.
